Your books, already done.

Every invoice, payment and expense is in the books the day it happens, so the statements are ready whenever you or your accountant ask.

An example of a carpenter's books: the quarter's profit, what is in the bank, what customers owe, the bills to pay and the sales tax to pay, checked overnight, with a bank line just matched to the bill it paid.

Kept as you work.

Invoices sent, payments, refunds, deposits, store orders, tickets and expenses post themselves, back to your first invoice.

An example of a journal posting itself: a deposit on a quote, an expense, the invoice, the deposit applied to it and the payment, each with what it came from.

Your bank statement, matched.

Bring in the statement from your bank's website, and most lines arrive with their match: the expense, the payout, the bill it paid.

An example of a bank statement brought in: four lines, each with a suggestion (an expense already recorded, a card payout, a bill it paid, a transfer already in the books), and one button that takes them all.

Bills, paid on time.

Enter a bill when it arrives, see what you owe by how late it is, and pay it straight from the bank line.

An example of the bills a carpenter owes, by how late: one not due yet, one six days late, and one already paid from the bank line that paid it.

Sales tax, laid out.

Your GST/HST return on the form's own lines, or the tax you collected per rate for your state, with what to pay.

An example GST/HST return for a quarter, on the form's own lines: sales, tax collected, input tax credits from bills, and the net tax to pay, with the day it is due.

What Accounting does

The things that make books an accountant trusts.

  • Every statementProfit and loss on accrual or cash, a balance sheet, a trial balance and the general ledger, each a spreadsheet.
  • Close the booksLock a month or a year once it is done, so what you sent your accountant stays true.
  • No year-end scrambleLast year's profit moves into retained earnings on its own, with no closing entry to post.
  • A seat for your accountantInvite them as a guest with their apps ticked for you: Accounting to work in, and your invoices, expenses and payments to read, for as long as you choose.
  • Checked every nightDebits must equal credits, and every record is counted once. If a check ever fails, CustoDesk is told and looks into it.
  • Every change keptJournal entries, accounts, locks and filings, with who made each one and when.

Before you start

Do I have to set anything up?

No. The books keep themselves from your first invoice. Add your bank accounts and cards when you want to match statements, and say where you file sales tax when you want returns.

Does it connect to my bank?

You bring in a statement downloaded from your bank's website, as OFX, QFX or CSV. Lines already brought in are skipped, so overlapping statements are safe.

Can my accountant work in it?

Yes. Invite them as a guest in Settings and they get Accounting to work in and your invoices, expenses and payments to read, for as long as you choose. If they use QuickBooks or Xero, download the journal laid out for those programs to import.

Cash or accrual?

Both. Profit and loss shows either, and switching takes one click.

Do I pay for each person on my team?

No. There is no charge per team member.
