What comes with you

Move one thing at a time. Nothing here asks you to switch the whole business in a day.

Your audience

Mailchimp exports an audience as separate spreadsheets for subscribed, unsubscribed, non-subscribed and cleaned contacts. Import the subscribed one with consent ticked, and leave the rest out or import them without it, since campaigns only reach people with consent. You can undo an import for 7 days if something looks wrong.

Your tags

Mailchimp puts each contact's tags in one TAGS column. It comes in as a field on the profile, and the import can also give everyone in the file one tag of your choosing.

Campaigns and automations

CustoDesk has no importer for them, so they are built again. Automations can start from a ready-made template, like a thank-you after a purchase or a follow-up on a quote.

Your sending address

Bulk campaigns go out from your own domain once it is verified in CustoDesk, so your emails keep your name.

When Mailchimp is the better fit

A move only makes sense if CustoDesk does the part you rely on most. These are the cases where it may not.

  • You run multivariate tests, up to eight versions of an email on Mailchimp's higher plans. CustoDesk tests two subject lines on a campaign, or splits an automation in two.
  • You use Mailchimp's predictive analytics from a connected online store.
  • Your marketing depends on one of Mailchimp's 300+ integrations.

Moving from Mailchimp

Can I bring my audience from Mailchimp?

Yes. Mailchimp exports subscribed and unsubscribed contacts as separate files: import the subscribed one with consent ticked, and campaigns only ever reach people with consent. You can undo an import for 7 days if something looks wrong.

Do I pay more as my list grows?

No. Campaigns come with the Customer Portal app, one price for the whole workspace, with no charge per contact.

What can start an automation?

A booking, a paid invoice, a finished job, a filled-in form, a new lead or a birthday, with waits, branches and tags after it.

Which address do campaigns come from?

Your own. Bulk campaigns send from your business's domain once it is verified, and drip campaigns send as plain email from your own mailbox.

Do I have to move everything at once?

No. Turn on one app and keep the rest where it is until you are ready. Apps switch on and off one at a time, so there is no big day.

Try it on your next campaign.
